Ananasi: "Kenya"

I can’t say that I have a “phobia” of spiders but I definitely prefer they keep to themselves. It’s those really fast spiders – the ones that are at one moment on the floor and the next, they are on your face injecting venom into your eyeball – those are the ones that make me ill at ease.  
 
That said, I had no problem working on White Wolf’s were-spiders: the Ananasi. In fact, I like to sink into material that I had previously not touched upon. So I pulled out some reference on arachnids and went to work.  
 
Spiders are creepiest when they rear up in to look intimidating- I think that’s why my favorite in this series of illustrations is the one with the trap-door Ananasi bursting out of a manhole with a street punk about to load his pants with fecal lumps.
