Dragons of the Sixth World: "Ryumyo"

DRAGONS OF THE SIXTH WORLD

When my editor at Shadowrun contacted me for this assignment, I was excited as all get-out. Dragons are that old adolescent stand-by favorite for the nerd-types like myself. Since I don’t work (much) for Wizards of the Coast, I don’t get too many chances to draw dragons.

And, this marks the first time I have ever used half tones for a Shadowrun project goin’ way back into the days of FASA even. I did do one full-page wash piece but that was only one illustration (and not really that great either) – doesn’t count, does it?

These, like the ones I have done for numerous White Wolf books, were inked traditionally, scanned, and then pulled together with halftones in photoshop. A boring and oft-times tedious process that wreaks havoc on my wrist ligaments (and probably my retinas as well) – but to give me the ability to play with the illusion of depth, lighting, and volume – it is well worth the damage!

The three full-page pieces came out especially delicious.
